Cornell Hotel Society-Chapter President's Handbook Secondary Schools Committee Program This program deals more broadly with Cornell University and is an opportunity for graduates to visit secondary schools and to provide information about the university to potential freshmen candidates. Please contact Cornell Alumni Admissions Ambassadors Network (CAAAN), Undergraduate Admissions Office, 410 Thurston Avenue, Ithaca, NY 14853, telephone 607-255-5020 ( HELPFUL SOURCES FOR EVENT PLANNING AND PREPARATION How to Plan a Hot Mob (New England Chapter) What is a "Happy Hour Hot Mob"? • We all know what Happy Hour is. "Hot" is for Hotelie. "Mob" is for a casual, fun, pop-up group event – like a Cash Mob or a Flash Mob). The New England Chapter has developed this concept in hopes of starting a movement not only throughout our region, but hopefully across the world in all the CHS Chapters. Any member in any location can create an event anywhere! • The idea of a Hot Mob is centered around a spontaneous pop-up event (assume 3-4 weeks' notice) for Hotelies – with spouses and significant others – to get together at a local restaurant/bar/pub/coffee shop/social venue/game spot for camaraderie, each attendee paying their own tab. Very little preparation and planning are required, and lots of fun and great networking are the benefits. What is the purpose? • As the CHS New England Chapter is based in Boston, we realize that many of our events end up being held in and around Greater Boston. But we want to encourage Hotelies throughout New England to get together! These are fun nights out that are easy to plan, and hopefully will be popping up all over New England…and perhaps setting a good example for other CHS Chapters around the world. Who can plan a "Happy Hour Hot Mob"? • Any Cornell Hotelie is welcome to organize such an event. We only ask that organizers follow a few simple guidelines. A few simple guidelines: • Please alert the CHS – New England Chapter of your plans at Include date and time, venue, and name of Hotelie host/organizer who is going to be present at the event. We will be happy to post the event on our Facebook page and in our member e-mails to encourage attendance. Page | 67
